1.aa. Search for general topics

Quick Search

  • This search will only return results that contain the words you searched for. To return more results, be less specific and use broader search terms.
  • Do not use any hyphens, symbols or numbers in any of your searches as this may negatively affect results.

Advanced Search

  • To return results for a general topic, click Advanced Search from the Contents box on the left side of the screen.
  • This search will allow you to scroll through each Topic in the Handbooks from A-Z. This search function is best used to conduct general searches.
  • Do not use any hyphens, symbols or numbers in any of your searches as this may negatively affect results.

1.bb. Narrow search results

Quick Search

  • To narrow your search on a specific topic, type the topic/keyword(s) with double quotation marks (i.e. "borrower eligibility") in the Quick Search field (in the Contents box on the left side of the screen), and click Go.
  • This will return only results that contain the exact phrase enclosed within your quotation marks.

Advanced Search

  • This search will allow you to scroll through each Topic in the Handbooks from A-Z. This search function is best used to conduct general searches.
  • Enter a keyword to return more specifc results.

1.cc. Find commonly used FHA terms

Quick Search

  • Type the FHA term into the Quick Search text field and click Go, this will return all Blocks titles with the FHA term.
  • To locate commonly used FHA terms, use the following list as a guideline:
    • One to four
    • Two to four
    • Coborrower
    • Cosigner
    • No Cash Out Refinance
    • Down Payment

1.dd. Find the Handbook/ Chapter/ Section/ Topic that relates to the current Block of information

Breadcrumb Trail

  • In order to understand where the Block is located within the Handbook, you may use the breadcrumb trail to identify the Topic, Section, Chapter and Handbook that the block belongs to.
  • The breadcrumb trail identifies the hierarchy of information in the following order:
    • Handbook
    • Chapter
    • Section
    • Topic

1.ee. Print the current page or information

Print Feature

  • Write down the Chapter, Section and Topic where the piece of information you would like to print is located.
  • Click on the Print link on the left sidebar. This will take you to the Table of Contents.
  • Select which Chapter you would like to print from the Table of Contents. A print version of the Handbook will appear as an Adobe PDF.
  • Select Print from the file menu or use the print icon

1.ff. Print a specific Block of information

Browse Print Function

  • You can only print a Chapter or a Section within the individual Handbooks. The print function does not allow you to print Topics or Blocks at this time.
  • You can print a specific piece of information by making a selection and using the print function on your browser

1.gg. Email a Block of information to a third party

Copy and Paste

Currently there is no email function on the online portal that will allow you to directly email a Block. However, you can email a copy of any Block by copying and pasting the URL (web address) into the body of your email as a link.

1.hh. Save a page or return to a specific Block of information at a later date

Bookmark Feature

  • Use the bookmark feature to save and reference frequently viewed Blocks.
  • Click on the Bookmark button at the bottom right corner of the Block you wish to save and select a location.
